Melbourne is set for a female-only ride-sharing service.

Shebah, the brain-child of broadcaster George McEncroe, is in the final stages of preparation before it goes live.

Ms McEncroe told Tony Jones the app is being tested and the paperwork finalised before the expected launch next month.

Many women feel unsafe travelling around, particularly at night, and Ms McEncroe said it’s important there’s a mode of transport women and children can feel comfortable with.

Men cannot download the app.

‘It’s clearly sexist; we’re not making any apologies about that,’ she said. 

‘We also recognise that sexual assault is hugely sexually biased as well.’
