Sports coaches are being urged to be more compassionate with children as figures reveal the level of misconduct and abuse in local sport.

In figures released from Sport Integrity Australia (SIA), almost half of abuse complaints in sport relate to children and psychologist Dr Rose Cantali is pushing for better education for the nation’s coaches.

“We have a lot of mental health issues (with children),” she told Mark Allen and Jimmy Bartel on 3AW Breakfast.

“We have players, especially children, presenting with ADHD and a lot of the coaches are not (able to) cope and manage these kids.”
