Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan says the impact on passengers from Thursday afternoon’s Metro train shutdown was “completely unacceptable”.

Thousands of Melbourne commuters were left stranded after the entire Metro train network shutdown and the back up system failed to kick in.

Ms Allan told 3AW’s Tony Jones passengers must be compensated.

“I feel very strongly that metro should make it as easy as possible for people to receive a refund for their touch on during yesterday afternoon, during the period when this occurred,” said Ms Allan.

“I would expect them to make this as easy as possible for passengers.”

The minister also took aim at Uber, telling 3AW Mornings that Uber was predatory with their surge-pricing yesterday.

“I share that anger,” she said.
