Push for women-only carriages on trains
There is a growing push to have a women-only carriage on late-night trains.
Bob Nanva of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union told Tom Elliott we are experiencing an ‘epidemic of sexual violence’ on public transport.
He said reserving a carriage for women would be a commonsense solution.
‘There is no silver bullet for this problem. We think everything should be explored,’ Mr Nanva said.
‘This is a low-cost, quick proposition that could be trialled.
‘It may work, it may not work. But there’s no point dismissing it out of hand without at least exploring the option.’
