There is a push to make burning the Australian flag illegal in Victoria.

A Bill was introduced in Parliament on Thursday morning.

Shooters and Fishers Party MP Daniel Young, the member for Northern Victoria, is one of those behind the push.

He told Tom Elliott he ‘hated it to his core’ when he saw protesters and the like setting for the flag.

‘I want to see it stop,’ he said on 3AW Drive.

‘I think it’s really horrible.

‘At the moment we’re looking at it being set up as a summary offence, which could carry up to two years jail time in extreme cases.

‘Mostly, we’re just going for a hefty fine.’
