There is a proposal to reintroduce dingoes into the Victorian bush.

Professor Euan Ritchie, Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at Deakin University, said there would be numerous benefits if it happened, mainly when it comes to pest control.

“It’d definitely be safe,” he said on 3AW Breakfast.

“Dingoes don’t really pose a great risk to people, as long as people respect those wild animals.”

Professor Ritchie pointed out there were already dingo populations in parts of Victoria, including the Mallee, Alpine and East Gippsland regions.
