The federal government is being asked to tip in $2.5m to help save the Point Lonsdale estate of Australia’s second Prime Minister Alfred Deakin.

There’s fears the historic building could be bulldozed if bought by developers, prompting the former Prime Minister’s great grandson to try raise enough funds to hold onto it.

“Of course (the government should help) to buy the house,” Wollongong University political expert Professor Greg Melleuish he told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings.
