Push underway for a ‘different approach’ to aged care
A push is underway to move away from the focus on large nursing homes in favour of smaller facilities.
The Older Persons Advocacy Network says many elderly people have “got a preference” for smaller care environments.
Older Persons Advocacy Network CEO Craig Gear says aged care should “be done in an environment that’s as home-like as possible”.
“We saw over the ’80s, ’90s and even recent decades the move for people living with a disability was to move and live in the community with small house models,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
“Older people in general should be allowed to make those choices.”
