Qantas leaves Australian crew on reserve rosters and sends jobs offshore
Despite receiving more taxpayer pandemic funding than any other business, Qantas is continuing to send Australian jobs offshore.
Up to a third of the airline’s Australian-based international cabin crew are sitting on the ground on minimum-pay reserve rosters.
The airline has refused to train them on different aircraft types, clearing the way to bring in more lower-cost offshore crew — predominantly from New Zealand and the United Kingdom — on Australian routes.
From next month, Qantas will also outsource parts of its crew training to Dubai and Abu Dhabi raising concerns of oversight by Australian air safety regulators and for the wellbeing of LGBTQI+ staff.
