Should prospective employees be hired purely on merit?

The question comes after both the Queensland government and Queensland University of Technology moved to dump the word ‘merit’ from their selection criteria when assessing job applications.

They will instead look at whether candidates fit certain ‘suitability’ criteria.

“Unfortunately this is the way of the world is tending to function,” Executive Director of the Australian Institute for Progress Graham Young told Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.
