Questions have been raised over whether combat sports have much of a future due to concussion.

An article written by Professor Mark Kenny, from the ANU Australian Studies Institute, caught Tom Elliott’s attention this week.

Professor Kenny asked why society placed so much emphasis on avoiding head knocks in the AFL, NRL and other football codes overseas, yet actively encouraged head punches and knockouts in a boxing ring.

“I don’t want to see it happen, I think it’s a fantastic sport, but you can’t really get away from this,” Tom Elliott said.

Professor Kenny agreed.

“I do wonder whether this is where this is going,” he said.
