Questions raised over Premier’s power plan that will deposit $50 in your account
The Victorian Council of Social Service has welcomed a plan from Daniel Andrews that will put $50 into the bank account of every Victorian power customer who registers at a state government website.
However, Neil Mitchell has questioned the Premier’s true motives for the proposal that some critics have branded a “$50 pre-election bribe”.
Be registering your bank details at victorianenergysaver.vic.gov.au, the government will deposit $50 into your account to help find better electricity and gas deals.
However, there is no requirement to change provider.
“What I do know is that $50 is going to be a pretty important cash boost for the Victorians struggling to pay their bills – it does matter,” VCOSS chief Emma King told Neil Mitchell.
“We are dealing with a range of people, for example, who a struggling to pay their bills and are going to shower at community shelters because they can’t shower at home, they’re not turning their heater on and aren’t cooking.
“It’s going to make a big difference for them.”
