Some quick-thinking footballers from the eastern suburbs have helped rescue a young male from the surf on the Mornington Peninsula.

As revealed on the 3AW Breakfast Rumour File, the Balywn Tigers were on training camp at Sorrento at the weekend when a number of players went to the aid of the male struggling in the water.

They used footballs as flotation devices.

“We had a number of guys leap straight into the water,” club manager Jo Tregear told Ross and John.

She said the rescued male was left shaken, but OK, after the incident.
