Quick-thinking truckie thwarts carjacking attempt on King Street
An attempted carjacker has been foiled by a quick-thinking truck driver during morning peak hour traffic.
Two carjackers armed with meat cleavers drove a Mazda sedan into an Audi on King Street just before 8am.
They refused to exchange details with the victim and stole his keys before one got into the Audi.
A quick-thinking truck driver reversed backwards slightly, blocking the attempted carjacker’s path.
“It was in front, about to turn right onto Collins from King Street but then they’ve kind of reversed a little bit so then they’re hanging the next lane over so that Audi didn’t have anywhere to go,” 3AW crime reporter Pat Mitchell told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
“Police were on the scene because they do have a strong presence in the city at the moment.”
Two men, aged 37 and 29, were arrested.
The violent carjacking comes after a horror weekend of CBD violence.
