Race-goers warned to beware rideshare price surges

Race-goers are being warned to watch out for rideshare operators charging exorbitant prices for transport to leave Flemington Racecourse today.

Rideshare trip prices surged by an average of 88 per cent on Derby Day.

Candace Ngok, Head of Growth at Placie, an app which compares prices from a range of rideshare and taxi operators, says that surge was “actually quite mild”.

“We have seen earlier in the year with the Grand Prix for example, even the T20 cricket, the price surges were even higher on those days where we have a combination exactly like the formula today — bad weather and demand surge at any given time,” she told Dee Dee.
