Radical plan to pay the homeless to report pot holes and overflowing bins

Pollster Gary Morgan has outlined a radical plan to pay the homeless to report faults in the city.

Mr Morgan, of Roy Morgan Research, is running for the position of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor, and one of his ideas is to pay homeless people to keep an eye on pot holes, overflowing bins, and other issues the council should fix.

Mr Morgan told Neil Mitchell a telecommunications provider could donate some phones with cameras on them to simplify the process.

The project would be funded by revenue from parking tickets.

‘We want to help the homeless,’ Mr Morgan said.

‘We have two million people unemployed or underemployed.’

Neil said parking inspectors should be the ones doing the reporting, since they are already out and about.
