Rape, murder charges over Zoe’s death
A man has been charged with rape and murder over the death of north-east schoolgirl, Zoe.
The 11-year-old was found dead at her home on Inchbold Street on Sunday morning.
A Mildura man, 29, has been under police guard in a psychiatric ward since the gruesome discovery.
He was last night charged with one count each of murder, sexual penetration of a child, and committing an indecent act with a child.
He’s been remanded in custody to return to court in Wangaratta this morning.
There has been an outpouring of grief for Zoe, including a vigil of more than 500 people on Tuesday night.
A town fair will be held on November 20 to raise money to support Zoe’s family.
In a statement released yesterday, Zoe’s family thanked emergency services and the community for their support.
