Real estate expert discusses impacts potential stamp duty elimination

There have been renewed calls to abolish stamp duty following reports Victoria’s treasurer conceded the tax acted as a barrier to first-home buyers.

Sales director at Marshall White Group, John Buongiorno, says anything which can be done to make rents affordable, and ease the renting crisis, would “amazing”.

“I think right now, we need to see a bit more detail … it would be terrific, if we could get all industry players, to all come together and just nut these sort of things out,” he told Jacqui Felgate.

He also says a national approach regarding the loss of revenue is needed if Victoria scraps the tax.
