Reason Party MP Fiona Patten has raised the plight of kangaroos landlocked by developments in Melbourne’s north.

The kangaroos have been the subject of a dispute between the state government and authorities who say their health is deteriorating and wildlife activists who want them moved.

Ms Patten said the issue has been raised with her.

“A community group up there has said we will take care of them – we will move them and the government is saying no, we’re going to kill them,” she said.

“In this particular case where they’ve been landlocked because we have built so fast around them.

“Why are we stopping this group from doing that (relocating them)?”

Caller Michael said he counted 86 in front of the McDonald’s in Epping.

He said it’s an awful situation.

“They are starving to death,” he said.
