Emma’s Fragrant Steamed Fish

Marinade:

  • 3 cm ginger, grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 Birdseye chilies, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons tamari (soy sauce will do)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 4 rockling fillets

Method:
Combine the marinade ingredients in a large shallow dish.

Immerse the rockling fillets into the marinade and let sit for a few minutes.

Prepare your steamer. I used a wok with a lid. I used a steamer insert in the wok that also fits a dinner plate inside.

Place the marinated fish onto the dinner plate and pour the remaining marinade on top.

Place the dinner plate inside the steamer insert and steam until the fish is just cooked and flakes away from a fork. Mine took about 13 minutes tonight.

Remove from heat once cooked and serve with a fresh green salad and steamed potatoes (or make an easy potato salad with mayonaisse and chopped herbs that you have on hand).  Use the excess marinade on the steamed dinner plate as a little sauce.

So yum, simple, fresh and healthy!
