Record crowds attend Big Bash League

The boss of the Big Bash League doesn’t expect the booming competition to get its own space in the cricket fixture next year – or years after.

Some of the BBL’s biggest names, including Melbourne-based stars Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell, must soon put the domestic T20 competition on the backburner to focus on international duties.

It has prompted calls to give the crowd-pulling, high-rating BBL its own summer slot.

But Anthony Everard, head of the BBL, told Gerard Healy and Shane McInnes on Sports Today that won’t be happening any time soon.

‘Not in the next few years no,’ Mr Everard told Sports Today. ‘When we design the summer of cricket, we do it in a complimentary way with the international schedule.’
