Sale has shivered through its coldest day on record, with the temperature dropping to a freezing -6.6 degrees on Monday morning.

The previous record in the Gippsland city was -5.8 degrees in July, 1978.

To put the figure into perspective, the overnight low at Mount Hotham was -3.6 degrees.

3AW Mornings received several calls on Monday from across Victoria reporting chilly temperatures.

Shane sent in this video of a basketball being rolled across a frozen dam at Jindera, not far from Albury.
