The State Government has introduced its new Recruit Smarter program.

It is aimed to reduce unconscious workplace bias by asking employers to ‘de-identify certain details.’

This would include a person’s name, age and location so that a decision to hire someone is not influenced by these characteristics.

Tim Piper, Head of the Victorian Branch at the Australian Industry Group says the workforce is ‘not reflective’ of where we are as a nation.

‘Companies are seeing a more diverse society, but not workforce,’ Mr. Piper told 3AW Drive.

‘In many ways we recruit in a model of ourselves.’

The trial is being run by several departments and companies.

However if the trial is seen as successful, Mr. Piper says it ‘should not be mandatory.’
