Regional Victorian Zoo to become home to Southern White Rhinos
A zoo in western Victoria is hoping to become a breeding ground for the endangered Southern White Rhino.
Halls Gap Zoo owner Greg Cullell told Tony Jones the zoo has been allocated two male rhino from the Zoo and Aquarium association of Australasia, but they come at a cost.
“Now these two boys, one is coming from the National Zoo in Canberra and the other from Christchurch, New Zealand,” Greg said.
“At some stage we’ll have females allocated to us so that we become a breeding facility for Southern White Rhino.”

But though the animals are free, housing them comes at a cost.
“It’s a bill that’s nudging on $300,000.”
