Reports of hospital equipment failure dismissed as ‘scaremongering’

ROSS AND JOHN

The Melbourne Metro Rail Authority is dismissing reports the new tunnel will shut down life-saving machinery.

It’s been reported that vibrations from the Metro Tunnel construction will force equipment at the nearby Peter Mac cancer hospital to shut down, but the MMRA says it’s “a fair bit of scaremongering”.

CEO Evan Tattersall told Ross and John the machinery will be impacted, and they’re already preparing for it.

“We’ll manage this so the life-saving machines don’t have to shut down,” Mr Tattersall said.

“There are a lot of things we can do to manage the impact.”
