A new study has found relief may be on the horizon for babies suffering from colic.

The condition, which effects one in five babies, involves explained episodes of excessive crying for more than three hours a day, more than three days a week.

Lead author from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Dr Valerie Sung told Justin and Kate the research has confirmed positive evidence that could bring relief to both baby and parents.

“There has been no single effective treatment despite half a century of research,” Dr Sung said.

“We confirmed that a certain probiotic is effective in breast-fed babies.”

Dr Sung said colic is very strongly associated with maternal depression and shaken baby syndrome.
