The head of National Seniors Australia says there is no doubt ageism is rife in the workforce.

And there is data to back that claim up.

The topic came up on 3AW Drive after Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas joked at a press conference he felt like he was a victim of ageism after he was again questioned about whether he would contest the next election.

National Seniors Australia chief executive John McCallum said older Australians undoubtedly found securing employment more difficult.

“Look, it is hard to get a job, surprisingly,” he said.

“We are in a period where there is a massive workforce shortage, so that makes it even more surprising.”
