Australians are increasingly working from home or taking their work home with them to catch up.

One in three Australians in the workforce are regularly working from home, according to an analysis of data from the Australian Bureau Statistics.

The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Jenny Lambert said there were three main reasons for the upward trend.

‘There’s an increase in independent contractors so that would see an increase overall of people working from home, because quite often they are based at home,’ she said.

‘The second reason is technology makes it much more flexible to work from home.

‘The third reason is it’s a competitive workplace these days some people say they feel they need to catch up to make sure they stay on top of things.’
