Research shows climate change is stopping women from having children

An increasing number of people say climate change is a reason they’re having fewer or no children at all.

Australia’s birth rate continues to fall.

Dr Carla Pascoe Leahy from the College of Arts, Law and Education at the University of Tasmania told Tom Elliott there was no doubt concern about the future was a factor.

“Our research suggests it is,” she said.

And she expects it to influence voting at the upcoming election.

“There is a sense of urgency among young women right now,” she said.

“For those women, this issue is personal.”
