Residents in regional Victorian town forced to travel to another town to collect mail
A post office in regional Victoria has been closed for weeks forcing residents to travel to another town to collect their mail.
Merrigum Post Office will be closed until August 29.
An Australia Post spokesperson said the postmaster has gone on “unexpected” leave and “unfortunately there are no suitable alternatives to continue operating the Post Office”.
Mail is being redirected to Kyabram Post Office, which is 14 kilometres away.
One regional resident says it means she’s now got a 42km round-trip to get her mail.
