Nathan Broad suspended over topless photo scandal
Richmond premiership player Nathan Broad has been suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season after being revealed as the player involved in the topless photo scandal.
An apologetic Broad fronted the media alongside president Peggy O’Neal on Monday.
“By sending the picture, I lied to her and broke her trust,” Broad said.
O’Neal said the Tigers were “terribly disappointed” with Broad’s actions.
Tony Jones joined Neil Mitchell as the press conference was taken live on air.
The veteran sports reporter said three weeks wasn’t enough.
“They had an opportunity, the Richmond Football Club, to send a real message,” he said on 3AW Mornings.
“I think they’ve dropped the ball, so to speak.”
He said a five-game suspension would have been adequate.
The AFL backed Richmond’s sanction.
“Nathan’s actions were irresponsible and totally unacceptable and have caused enormous distress for a young woman and her family,” the league said in a statement.
“The AFL has accepted the Richmond Football Club’s three-match sanction.”
