Rita Panahi thinks everyone should lay off the banks
Rita Panahi has gone in to bat for the banks.
The Herald Sun columnist told Tom Elliott she used to work at some of the big banks, and thinks they get a bad rap.
She said we should be grateful that our banks are strong and successful.
‘If you want to see what happens when the banking industry is weakened, have a look elsewhere,’ Ms Panahi said.
It was a collapse of the banking industry that led to the recent global financial crisis.
Rita said people who complain about the excessive fees and CEO salaries of the Big Four should simply bank elsewhere.
She accused Australians of being ‘a nation of whingers’.
‘We’ll whinge if they fail, and we whinge when they’re successful,’ she said.
This prompted Tom to, inexplicably, break out into song.
