Rita Panahi wants Islamic homophobia put in the spotlight

Rita Panahi wants more scrutiny of Islamic homophobia.

In the wake of the Orlando massacre, Ms Panahi is concerned that ‘the regressive left’ are reluctant to condemn the killer’s homophobia because he was Muslim.

The Herald Sun columnist told Tom Elliott Muslim homophobia is ‘vile, strong, and prevalent’, but it doesn’t get called out like other bigotry.

‘The regressive left, who would normally rail against any sort of bigotry – particularly against the homosexual community – refuse to call it out if it comes from the Islamic community,’ Ms Panahi said.

‘This is a disgusting set of beliefs and we need to challenge it. We can’t shy away from it because of cultural sensitivites.’
