Rita Panahi is weighing up whether to send her son to public or private school.

At up to $200,000 for high school alone, Rita isn’t sure a private education is worth the cost.

‘I’d only need to spend a fraction of that to have one-on-one tutoring,’ she said.

Rita said private schools perform better academically, but Tom Elliott said it’s because they are more selective with who attends.
