Road ‘crisis’: The staggering sum it may cost to fix Victoria’s roads and railways
It could cost up to $1bn to fix Victoria’s flood-ravaged roads and railways, a transport lobby group has warned.
The Victorian Transport Association is calling for both major parties in Victoria, as well as the federal government, to commit to a major lift in funding to fix the roads.
It’s warning higher costs and limited supplies of food and essentials are a risk going into the holiday season due to freight network issues.
Victorian Transport Association chief Peter Anderson has told the Herald Sun “We estimate between $500m and $1bn will be needed to fix our devastated transport network”.
About 450 roads across the state are currently closed due to flood damage.
Director of regional freight operator, Victorian Freight Specialists, John Rowe, says it’s a “crisis”.
