One of Footscray’s favourite sons has hit back at those questioning whether the Western Bulldogs have gone too far celebrating their thrilling preliminary final victory.

Rohan Smith told 3AW the club had every right to be excited about making its first grand final in 55 years.

The Bulldogs are the talk of the town in Melbourne this week, with pubs, clubs and entire suburbs covered in red, white and blue.

But some have suggested the club may have already played its grand final emotionally.

Smith rubbished those suggestions on Sports Today.

‘Why not celebrate it?’ the assistant coach said.

‘That’s why you play footy.

‘If you can’t celebrate those wins, there is no use playing.’
