One of Victoria’s leading police voices says helicopters could help combat the impact of the state’s controversial new pursuit policy.

Ron Iddles, secretary of the police association, is a backer of the restricted pursuit policy but admitted it presented fresh challenges for the force.

‘The whole environment has changed,’  Iddles told Neil Mitchell.

‘Melbourne is now a 24-7 city, basically.

‘We need to look at other technology and that (helicopters chasing cars) is one option you’d look at.’
