Some airlines are now adding an additional warning during their safety demonstrations to alert passengers to the risk of phones slipping between the seats.

It comes as word reached 3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File of a phone ‘exploding into flames’ mid-flight.

Former A380 pilot James Nixon told Ross and John some problems are linked to charging devices in business or first class, or when the phone simply slips between the seats.

He said it was a huge issue.

‘The lithium batteries go off in a big way,’ he said.
