It’s been revealed enough rubbish to fill almost 30,000 council bins was removed from the Yarra River in the past year.

But the river keeper has allayed fears the Yarra could soon turn into the Ganges.

Andrew Kelly told Ross and John most of the rubbish found its way into the waterway through drains.

‘Things are getting better in some ways, but worse in others,’ he said.

‘But if we keep working away, we’ll get there.’
