Ross and John learn of breast cancer’s link to alcohol

Ross and Russel

Breast cancer survivors who consume even small amounts of alcohol, may increase the risk of the cancer returning.

The Herald Sun reports the findings have the potential to change public health guidelines.

The Cancer Council’s Dr Anna Boltong spoke with Ross and John and said just three tablespoons of wine a day could pose a risk.

‘We talk about standard drinks and number of grams per day, that doesn’t make a lot of sense to the average person,’ said Dr Boltong.

‘Putting it into household measures, or what it looks like in a glass, enables us to make more informed choices and we know what quantities were talking about.’

Although most of the studies have been conducted with woman, Dr Boltong said men are also at risk.
