Mobile phones that self-destruct could soon be available to the ordinary people, not just Hollywood spies.

Ross and John spoke with their resident tech expect, Trevor Long, from YourTechLife.com, about the technology.

He said it wasn’t as dramatic as it might sound and that the phone didn’t ‘explode.’

‘It heats it to a point that the sim card just bursts into a million pieces,’ he explained on 3AW Breakfast.

As for why it’s been created?

‘The people behind this don’t believe the software and pin codes we put on phones to encrypt data is enough to protect you,’ he said.
