Ross Greenwood discusses car dealers

Ross Greenwood speaks to the Chairman of the ACCC, Rod Sims, about a new issues paper as to whether car dealers are milking the aftermarket services for their own wallets as opposed to looking after consumers.

The question being asked is whether consumers are ‘being taken for a ride’ when they buy a new car.

Mr Sims labelled three key areas:

– Prices for new cars have been falling in recent years, however prices for new parts are on the increase.

– Are consumers getting their guarantee rights? (ie – replacement of faulty parts)

– What consumers are told about performance and conditions.
