Ross Greenwood’s take on the Victorian budget

Article image for Ross Greenwood’s take on the Victorian budget

The government’s bold move to announce full funding to the Melbourne Metro Rail project in this year’s budget has Ross Greenwood questioning its risk.

Ross highlighted the previous government and its spending commitment on the presumption that the money will be available through strong economic growth, population growth along with a rise in taxes.

Ross was joined with 3AW State parliamentary reporter Lauren Hilbert to discuss the budget.

Ms Hilbert raised another aspect the government is banking on, which is a strong housing market.

‘If the housing market falls, then obviously our income falls as well,’ she said on the Money News Program.

‘If all those things fall through then our finances are in a very difficult state.’

Ross suggested he doesn’t know that he would be so brave as a treasurer to predict a strong housing market.
