Route 8 tram could be scrapped as part of Melbourne Metro Tunnel

One of Melbourne’s most scenic tram routes could be scrapped as part of works on the $10 billion Melbourne Metro Tunnel.

Route 8, which runs next to the Botanic Gardens, along Domain Road and then right into Park Street, could soon be consigned to the history books.

During construction, trams will run further along St Kilda Road before turning left into Toorak Road.

But the change of route may become permanent.
