Rumour confirmed: Melbourne flag marshall off to Paris palace to accept award

A Melbourne man is being presented with an award for outstanding services to motor sport at the Palace of Versailles in France.
First heard on the Rumour File, Ross and John were told a flag marshall is flying to Paris today to receive award for his volunteer services.
Roger Chirnside, the 2017 FIA Outstanding Official of the Year Award recipient, later confirmed the news.
“I got a phone call, completely out of the blue, by the president of the Federation of Motor Sport asking me if I had a valid passport,” Roger told Ross and John.

Roger started out as a crowd control official at Sandown in 1966 and has been involved in the sport ever since.
He and his wife are flying to Paris tonight for the awards at the Palace of Versailles.
“It’s a full black tie affair, no overalls with Bathurst written all over them,” Roger said.
