Rumour confirmed: Phillip Morris cuts one third of national workforce
THE RUMOUR FILE
Tobacco giant Philip Morris is cutting 150 jobs nationwide, with staff informed at a meeting this morning.
It comes after Ross and John heard the following rumour on 3AW Breakfast this morning:
“A multi-national is set to lay-off 30 per cent of its workforce in Melbourne.”
Philip Morris later confirmed the news, with spokesman Erdem Koch saying staff were told during meetings this morning.
“What we’re looking at in terms of who will be affected the most, is people who usually work out in the field, our sales representatives this year last, because we are seeing duplication of work,” Mr Erdem said.
“We’re seeing that their work has changed incredibly with evolving technology and digital communications, and naturally when you have fewer sales representatives that will have flow-on effects across the business.”
The company currently employs about 500 people.
