Rumour Confirmed: Remand prisoner incorrectly released after court

CONFIRMED: Authorities have been left red-faced after a remand prisoner who was incorrectly released handed himself back in.

‘Lucky Escape’ told 3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File the man had been taken to Melbourne County Court last Friday, where his case was adjourned.

The prisoner then went back to the cells, before being told he was free to go.

The man, sure he was still on remand, walked from Williams Street to his solicitor’s office to explain what had happened.

Police arrived shortly after to arrest him.

An ‘administrative error’ has been blamed for the mistake.
