RUMOUR CONFIRMED

Hackers have taken control of an online assembly in Melbourne’s south-east, streaming “extremely violent” material before issuing a threatening email.

It’s since prompted an investigation from the Department of Education.

“IT Security” alerted 3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File to the news on Tuesday morning, just a few weeks after also sharing news about a fake email being sent to parents advising them about the death of the principal due to COVID.

Alkira Secondary College at Cranbourne North has since issued an apology to parents.

“During assembly, an unknown person interrupted the session and briefly screened a highly inappropriate video,” the school principal said in a note.

“We immediately ended the assembly.

“The Department of Education is working with us to determine how this occurred and to establish the identity of the intruder.”
