RUMOUR CONFIRMED: Stranded wombat rescued from middle of lake

A wombat stranded on a stump in the middle of Lake Mulwala in Yarrawonga has been rescued after being spotted by a local resident.

Barbara Hewat was fishing with her grandsons in their boat when they noticed the helpless animal.

“We couldn’t pick her up, she had massive claws on her,” Ms Hewat told 3AW Breakfast.

“So I got in touch with my daughter-in-law and she rang wildlife rescue”.
