Geelong footballer Tom Ruggles was a late withdrawal before last Sunday’s shock loss to Carlton.

‘Racetrack Rat’ reckons he knows why…

He told Ross and John the youngster was late arriving to Etihad Stadium before the game and dropped because of it.

He said Ruggles wouldn’t be up for senior selection this week because of the incident.

The Cats told 3AW Breakfast Ruggles had ‘troubles’ getting to the ground on Sunday, but denied any suggestion he went to the MCG.

The club said there were traffic issues and and Ruggles hadn’t played at Etihad Stadium before.

An eye infection was listed as the reason for his late withdrawal…

The Cats have made a late change with Tom Ruggles out of the side due to an eye infection. Replaced by Jordan Murdoch. #AFLBluesCats
